Red Guide Disclaimer
The Red Guide is a resource created specifically for filmmakers working in Arab countries. It addresses the safety and security challenges often faced in the region.
AFLAMUNA began developing this guide years ago, and while we remain proud of the efforts that made this guide possible, we also recognize its limitations. When genocide is legalized, it’s disingenuous to suggest that any tool can fully protect against war machines targeting our brothers and sisters in Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, and elsewhere across the Arab region and the world.
Still, we humbly offer this guide in the belief that it provides essential safety tips, practical suggestions, and useful resources for film workers, in hopes of making their working environment safer.
Introduction
Filmmakers and artists working in high-risk or oppressive locations often must confront risks alone. They lack access to essential information, clear guidance, and a robust support system that addresses their unique challenges and needs.
Recognizing that, we decided to create the Red Guide, a safety and security guide tailored explicitly for filmmakers in the Arab countries.
This comprehensive guide delves into a wide array of safety and security topics. It covers fundamental aspects such as defining and understanding risks, preparing for potential threats, enhancing digital security measures, documenting instances of persecution, locating sources of assistance, and addressing the process of recovering from traumatic experiences. It also provides a valuable network of organizations that extend safety and security support to artists at risk worldwide.
In addition to all that, the guide offers a multitude of practical tools and resources that we are sure filmmakers will find helpful.
This guide aims to equip Arab film industry professionals with the resources and tools needed to create security management plans that cater to the specific needs of their projects.
Our dedicated team invested extensive time in rigorous research, conducted in-depth studies, and engaged in numerous discussions to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the content we provide.
As our research journey deepened and we interacted with individuals, it became abundantly clear that many had faced numerous incidents, highlighting the urgent requirement for a safety and security support system in our region.
Moreover, our research unveiled a significant lack of Arab resources and information, emphasizing the critical role projects like the Red Guide play in creating dependable and accurate open sources.
One of our most valuable missions remains to ensure unconditional access to information for everyone, everywhere, particularly in regions where it is most needed.
